"At Smith, Bucklin & Associates, Inc., we began using EXPOCAD and EXPOCAD VR2 when
we, along with ACT, Inc., implemented the first successful live on-line exhibitor space selection meeting for our client NAFEM (North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers) in 1999. Although some
exhibitors still chose to attend in person, 32% took advantage of the on-line option available to them. The technology benefited all parties involved and eliminated costly fees associated with onsite travel and
operating expenses for many.
That first year we were able to assign 65 % of space (200,000 nsf), $3.2 million in space, in one
day. The floor plan stayed online for future assignments and was available for pre-show attendees to view and plan their booth visits.
By 2001 over 400 exhibitors chose space in real time, on -line only, and will again in 2003.
The process is simple and has helped increase exhibitor approval with booth locations as well as satisfied our association client. At SBA we work more efficiently, cost effectively and our work is less prone to
error in the assignment and confirmation process.
Day to day operations has improved since EXPOCAD connects the floor plan to the database, allowing
us to update as needed and accurately assign space, run reports, generate invoices and track payments. The system doesn't allow double-booking of space and it's easier to track exhibitors from past shows and
use that information to up sell booth space. We've also reduced the potential for error when we transfer floor plans to the decorator.
Overall SBA is very happy with the fact that we can manage our floor plans and exhibitor databases
electronically using the latest technology. We've decided to build on our success and have now integrated the software for all of our 30 shows. This technology helps us remain competitive and a finer
choice for an organization looking for a full service show management firm."
